The resort's inspector, Dave Meredith, said the "prompt actions" of his officers had prevented a large amount of controlled drugs entering supply networks.

"This was a substantial seizure of cannabis," he said. "I am very pleased with this seizure and its corresponding impact on drug supply networks."

In a separate incident yesterday, (Wednesday, February 6) Newquay police seized cannabis plants and other drug equipment from a property in Grosvenor Avenue.

A number of knives found within the premise were also removed by the officer, who used a Misuse of Drugs Act Warrant to gain entry to the property.

A 32 year old male was issued with a warning for possession of a controlled drug. Newquay police said more warrants are planned in the coming weeks.

Sergeant Andy Honeywill said: "Actionable intelligence is reviewed on a daily basis and police will continue to target the misuse of drugs in Newquay.

"Possession of cannabis remains a criminal offence and can often lead to users being tempted to try harder drugs and ultimately leads to the commission of crime."

Mr Meredith added that Newquay police will always take a "robust approach" to the supply and use of controlled drugs.

Anyone with information relating to the supply and/or use of controlled drugs are encouraged to contact the police on 101.

Information can be passed anonymously to the police via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111
