Up to 50 tall ships to gather in Falmouth
One of the most original and beautiful sail training vessels in Europe has become the first ship to sign up for a regatta from Falmouth to Royal Greenwich next year.
The 98-year-old Dutch gaff rigged ketch, Tecla, is the first to sign up for the 2014 Tall Ships Regatta, which is expected to attract up to 50 ships when it takes place next August.
The 28-metre vessel, which requires a crew of 22 people to sail her, has competed in tall ships races in the past, with her last visit to Falmouth culminating in victory in a race to Madeira in Portugal.
The regatta sets off from Falmouth on August 31 next year, with the race ending in the Isle of Wight, before the ships make their way to Royal Greenwich for a further five days of celebration.

Sam Groom, festivals and events manager at VisitCornwall, said interest from possible participants is growing.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming Tecla back to Falmouth for this exciting event," she said. "We have been working hard to promote Falmouth's long established commitment to sail training and hosting tall ships to ships' captains across the world."
The festival begins on August 28. For more information visit www.falmouthtallships.co.uk.
