He was driving a silver Mazda 323 at Newtown roundabout, Long Rock, in the direction of St Erth when the vehicle left the road and went into a hedge. Found unconscious at the scene, Mr Barnes and was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch. They would particularly like to speak to a cyclist who stopped at the scene but left before police arrived.
