A CAMAPIGN to get road improvements at a junction in Indian Queens could come to fruition.

Residents say that irresponsible parking on the junction at Moorland Road and Toldish Lane is making the area dangerous.

Their fears were confirmed last week following a two-vehicle accident at the scene where two people were taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, with minor injuries.

At St Enoder Parish Council's monthly meeting Toldish Lane resident Mike Davis said: "Something has to be done about the cars that are parking there. The drivers are breaking the law and if something is not done soon we could have a serious accident there."

Councillor Barbara Bailey said: "The situation is not helped by the speed at which people drive."

Councillor Mervyn Tamblin added: "People have to pull out from around the cars before they can even see what is coming."

In response PCSO Anita Parry said that the police were aware of the problems and have done door-to-door inquires, she said: "I have spoken to the residents in the area and many were aware of the problems they are causing and said that they would be more mindful in future."

Cornwall councillor for the area Dick Cole said that a meeting had been arranged with Cornwall Highways.

He added: "We will be having a site meeting to discuss the best way to try and solve the problems, this could include putting in yellow lines and moving the 30mph signs but we need to size it up first. Whatever is considered, members of the public will be consulted."

“I was the person that was hit, I was almost stationary when I was hit my a speeding youngster. The car that is being accused of being in the way was not as I was already on my side of the road and had complete view of the speeding driver who also had complete view of me but was out of control.

I myself have been on the same road again since the accident and myself, a tractor and trailer managed to fit through WITH the parked cars present. It was simply due to the speeding driver that the accident occurred.

If the police and the local council dont do something about the speeding drivers along that road some body is going to be killed. But it is not the parked cars fault for the accident occurring; it simply plays a part. If the car that was parked is getting the blame and was moved it would then be put down to the remaining 7/8 cars and vans that are then still parked.

The road allows speeding drivers to drive at a speed of what they like rather than sticking to the speed limit and it is this that has to stopped; rather than residents moaning at one another.

The lady that helped myself, my daughter and our young puppy was brilliant and offered support and comfort after the accident and there should be more people like her rather than those who were just out to gossip.”

“The "Residents" had already told the police to tell me to move my car off the exceedingly wide pavement (which was half on the road). Parking this was did improve visibility, but parking on the road (Which is NOT illegal - confirmed by police) makes visibility reduced. Double yellow lines would be great but these would have to go ALL the way up Moorland Road as ANY cars parked along there reduces visibility. Especially minibuses parked by the roundabout. Council lorries parked by the next roundabout and people parking on pavements. Do not single out one solitary car. Perhaps the "Residents" would like to invite me to their next meeting. !! I did all I could on the night of the accident including caring for the young girl injured in the car. (This was the car that was not at fault) The speeding driver was excessively speeding and out of control. This speeding irresponsible youngster has crashed her car again since this accident. People should take more care in a 30mph zone !! If she had been doing 30mph she would have been able to stop !!”

“Just to quote "I am not an irresponsible driver" The Police told me was NOT parked illegally. The accident was purely the fault of the speeding driver. The woman who was moaning to me at the accident scene about my car was actually seen speeding herself the next morning right past the said junction. !!”

“I completely agree; something has to be done before someone is killed.

The accident mentioned above could have been alot worse; drivers have a responsibility to drive safely, the young female responsible for the accident was travelling at approximately 45-50 mph in a 30 zone (calculated from skid marks at the RTI scene: i am a forensic scientist) she, along with all motorist should know that the big black number in the red circle is a LIMIT not a TARGET!! Passing cars in the manner that this driver did so was dangerous and wreckless; and should have been done BELOW the speed limit, not at 50mph!!

Motorists who live in this area too have a responsibility to park correctly; parking on blind bends and locations such as where this accident took place is inappropriate, and councils should do something to reduce the amount of on-road parking. Schemes such as introducing off-road parking could be introduced in that area to stop motorist feeling the need to cross the white line and to reduce the accident risk in that area”
