Acer glade celebrates fifty shades of autumn
Japanese maples at a renowned Westcountry garden are providing a glorious splash of autumn colour after a turbulent British summer.
Professional and amateur gardeners alike have been foxed by this year's weather which has swung from drought to extreme rainfall.
And while the rich colours in the acer glade at The Garden House, at Buckland Monachorum on the southern edge of Dartmoor, are later than usual, they've been a welcome sight for head gardener Matt Bishop.
"You can never really predict the strength of the autumn colour because it is down to so many factors, one of which is the drop in temperature," he said. "This year has been a real challenge because of all the wet weather but you just have to work with the conditions you get.
