AN ACTIVE lifestyle group in St Stephen is celebrating, after receiving £1,000 in donations and a grant.

The Brannel Circuit Kids group offers young people in Clay Country a place where they can play games and have fun with friends, and at the same time gain a positive attitude towards exercise and keeping active.

The group has been awarded a £250 grant from Restormel Borough Council's voluntary organisations' fund, which was presented to members on Saturday by Cllr Des Curnow.

And earlier this summer regular customers at the King's Arms in St Stephen gave the group a cheque for £755, after collecting money to help further its work. Derek Morrison, who is a qualified instructor in health-related exercise for children, said the group was delighted with the money, as it relies entirely on donations and grants for its existence.

He said: “Our aim is to give the kids in the clay area something different to traditional games.

“If children have a positive attitude towards exercise from a young age they are more likely to continue exercising into adulthood, therefore living a healthier lifestyle.”

The next six-week course in the Brannel Circuit Kids group starts on Saturday September 13 at Brannel School and offers fitness and fun activities for children in two age ranges, from five to 11.

Sessions are free but booking is essential as places are limited. Telephone Derek Morrison on 01726 821657 for more details.
