Actress Jenny Agutter to launch Cornwall arthritis website
Call the Midwife star Jenny Agutter will be at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro next month to launch a new website for people in the county with arthritis.
The actress is a long term supporter of the Cornwall Arthritis Trust which funded the website.
Arthritis affects people of all ages including children. In a recent survey in Cornwall nearly one in five people aged 55-64 reported having arthritis or a long term joint problem, this rose to 1 in 3 for people in older age groups. In people aged 85 or more, nearly half had arthritis.
Jo Erwin, research associate at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, said there is no cure for arthritis and helping people to manage the painful, long term disease is very important.

“ Enabling people to easily access reliable information is key,’’ she said.
“ This initiative grew out of a consultation that was held with people with rheumatoid arthritis where they were invited to discuss their experiences of living with rheumatoid arthritis in Cornwall.
“ One of the key themes that emerged from the discussions was the need for reliable information. People using the internet found it difficult to find appropriate sites and often inadvertently accessed sites with inaccurate and alarming information.’’
The Cornwall arthritis website aims to provide information on local services and facilities in the county as well as links to trusted websites.
It covers a wide range of subjects of interest to people with arthritis including clinic services, how to manage your arthritis, where to get financial advice, leisure and travel. The website has been developed by rheumatology and research specialists from the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
The launch of the website, www.cornwallarthritis.org.uk will be held on Monday, February 10, from 11 to 1pm at the Knowledge Spa, Royal Cornwall Hospital.
There will be stands with information and advice on local services for people with arthritis.
