SOME might say the only thing missing from this picture is a lamp and a footstool to complete a living room with an outstanding view.

But angry Trewoon resident Sara Aberdeen is hoping someone can identify the owner of this cream sofa and television monitor that were dumped next to a "gorgeous" field of sheep at Five Turnings – the junction between St Ewe, Little Polgooth, Polgooth, Sticker and Hewas Water.

"It's practically half a living room," she said. "In fact it would take up the whole living space in a traditional Cornish cottage.

"Somebody is using this beautiful area as a tip.

"When I drove past on Saturday I happened to see this lovely sofa next to a sheep in the field. Somebody must know who it belongs to."

She said staff at the Lost Gardens of Heligan also reported seeing similar fly- tipping en route to work, on the hill from Pentewan.

"Doesn't this sort of thing make you angry?" she added.

Cornwall Council said there is no excuse for flytipping as the authority provides kerbside collections for waste and recycling centres, where people can deposit their household waste free of charge.

"We will always follow up reports of fly-tipping on public land and quickly remove the waste," it said.

"While it can often be difficult to identify perpetrators, we will prosecute when we have evidence – the penalties are heavy and can include imprisonment.

"We encourage any member of the public who witnesses fly-tipping to safely obtain any details of the vehicles concerned and pass these on to us as soon as possible."

If you know who the sofa belongs to, call us on 01726 871098 or send an e-mail to clowe@c-dm.co.uk

“You think that's bad? I saw a crisp packet in a hedge whilst walking to work this morning. A crisp packet! And as if that wasn't bad enough, it still contained a few crisps, & they were ridged.... RIDGED!!!”

“Someone somewhere knows who the irresponsible idiot is who did this and should turn him/her in. These people through sheer laziness turn large areas of our country into eyesores and should be very heavily fined. That's the only way to hurt them in the pocket so hit them hard and name and shame them.”
