Seagull-proof bags
A NEW type of rubbish sack which is said to be seagull-proof is being tested by Cornwall Council and could be made available to all households. Residents in Looe, Newquay, Polperro, Porthleven and St Austell will be given the chance to take part in the three-month trial. If successful, the sacks could be made available for residents all over Cornwall to buy. The large black bags are made of material which can prevent seagulls, rats and other animals from getting to the rubbish inside. Each sack can hold between two and three black bags of rubbish and have ties attached to the top so they can be secured to a gate or fence.

“Great idea to a point, as long as they are 'affordable'. In these times people will buy the thinnest bin bags at the supermarket to save money. In Holland they use yellow bags which apparently is a colour that the seagulls don't like.
More extensive use of wheelie bins (like in the former penwith) is the answer as they only have to be purchased once.”
