Anita's lens captures 'First Women'
A portrait of the first woman to ride in the Grand National is featured in a photographic project to mark International Women's Day today.
Photographer Anita Corbin, from Somerset, captured Charlotte Budd who, as a 21-year-old in 1977 riding her horse Barony Fort, made it to within four fences of home in the famous horse race. She was one of two Somerset women photographed by Ms Corbin, chosen because they were the first to achieve a particular milestone in their profession.
The other was Abbey Burton, the first and youngest UK woman to win World Cup Gold medal in the shotgun Women's Trap event at Lonato, Italy, in May 2012.
The two portraits will go towards Ms Corbin's 2018 "First Women" project to mark 100 years of women's suffrage. Ms Corbin described the project, which is to feature in an ITV series, as "highlighting some of the inspirational women, both senior and junior, who live and work in our county". Her project will be a collection of 100 iconic portraits from the 21st century of women who been deemed worthy of the landmark title "First Woman".
