THE Safer Bodmin project said it is helping to reduce antisocial behaviour problems in the town with swift and direct action.

The multi-agency body has pointed to problems in the Pool Street area where a troublemaker has now been removed within a few months of him being reported for causing neighbourhood unrest.

David Parker, Cornwall Council's community safety officer for Bodmin, said: "In July, a group of people approached Safer Bodmin with concerns about the levels of antisocial behaviour in one particular area of the town.

"A meeting was held two days later, with a local councillor and full details were taken. The Cornwall Council Antisocial Behaviour team, along with the police and other agencies, conducted investigations, gathered evidence and swiftly took a number of various actions. As a result, the people affected are now able to live without constant pressure, and in their words they are now 'over the moon','' he said.

Cornwall councillor for Bodmin East Lance Kennedy, was the councillor involved.

He said: "I called the meeting after I was contacted by a resident, and steps to remove this person were swiftly taken. I am delighted that residents can now look forward to a better quality of life.''

Mr Kennedy said the partnership Safer Bodmin continues to address antisocial behaviour in the town.

Mr Parker said: "Should anyone have any issues with antisocial behaviour which cannot be resolved locally, please use the contact form on the Safer Cornwall website and we will try to help.''
