Appeal helps to replace scanners
A CHARITY set up in memory of a North Cornwall baby has enabled Derriford Hospital's maternity department at Plymouth to replace three ultrasound scanners.
The George Appeal was set up in memory of baby George North by parents James and Ruth North, of Tregadillett, near Launceston, who wanted to do something to support the ante-natal department.
Together with a bequest, they have provided £60,000 towards three additional ultrasound scanners, costing £130,000, to help benefit other parents.
It was through regular scanning that James and Ruth were told that George had problems and with their consultant were able to make informed decisions as the pregnancy progressed.

Sadly, George died at 31 weeks into the pregnancy.
Ruth says they set up The George Appeal in August 2006 in memory of their son.
"We discovered at his 20 weeks scan that he had a condition that would require surgery once born. Sadly this wasn't to be.
