The Archbishop of Canterbury will visit Truro Cathedral for a day of prayer next month.

The new Archbishop, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, is encouraging others to join him in prayer at the cathedral on March 18 ahead of his enthronement on March 21.

A spokesman for the cathedral said the purpose of the Archbishop's journey was to pray and to encourage others to pray with him, adding that he was keen for as many people as possible to join him.

The Bishop of Truro, the Right Rev Tim Thornton, said: "This is a great privilege for us, so do come to the cathedral and join with the Archbishop in prayer.

"As we journey through Lent, considering our own discipleship, what better time to pray for him as he takes this momentous step on his journey – and we can also pray for ourselves and for the wider church."

The Archbishop will spend part of the day praying on his own.
