Art auction launched to raise vital funds for St Just Plen-an-Gwary project
AN ART auction has been launched to raise money for the start-up costs of St Just’s new eco build at the Plen-an-Gwary.
Artists from St Just, Pendeen and around west Penwith have donated a total of 15 works to help fund the project, which is not far off being finished, according to key organiser of the development Mary Ann Bloomfield.
Bidding for pieces opened on Monday this week and is open for a month. Ms Bloomfield said the paintings are on sale just in time for Christmas, adding she hopes they raise vital funds.
“At the moment we have no money and there are lots of things to plan for,” she said.

“It would be nice to raise £2,000 - but if we got more than £1,000 it would be great.
“It would contribute a great deal and would really help. We want to move on with the project - and ensure the use of the Plen-an-Gwary for the future.”
Ms Bloomfield said the ancient amphitheatre means a great deal to the local community and with the build set for completion in spring next year, money needs to be secured soon for the running costs.
She said insurance and maintenance need to be covered and added the aim is to be “self-sufficient”.
“It’s really important to the people of St Just,” she said.
“We want to keep it alive - we love it. We want to celebrate the history and heritage and the new facility will help that.”
The artwork is currently on display in town cafes The Cook Book and the Dog and Rabbit.
The auction is a sealed bid and closes on December 18. For more information on how to bag one of the paintings visit: http://www.plenproject.com/support/upcoming-events/art-auction
