Ashes up to third
SALTASH United moved up to third in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division on Monday evening following a 2-0 victory over Tavistock at Langsford Park.
Ross Saint scored both goals, one from the penalty spot, as the Ashes spoilt the party for Tavvy, who were celebrating their 125th anniversary and also reopening their clubhouse.
A crowd of 207 saw Saltash take the lead two minutes before half-time with Saint smashing home a penalty after striker Kelvin Fyneboy appeared to be tripped.
Fyneboy was the centre of attention again for the Ashes' second goal, flicking on a free kick for Saint to fire home a drive from close range.
Saltash return home on Saturday to face Elmore at the Kimberley Stadium (3pm) as they look to close the gap on Exmouth and Ivybridge at the top of the table.
The other end of the premier division is an increasing concern for Liskeard Athletic, who face St Austell at Lux Park on Saturday.
The Blues lost 4-0 at Launceston last weekend, on the back of a 4-1 home defeat by Falmouth Town the previous midweek.
Torpoint Athletic will be looking for revenge at The Mill on Saturday when they take on a Camelford side who knocked them out of the FA Carlsberg Vase last weekend.
