The author Peter Villiers will discuss leadership at sea in a talk at Falmouth's Maritime Museum later this month.

Mr Villiers will explore why some people show exemplary leadership skills afloat, whereas others fail when those qualities are most needed.

And he will discuss whether there are there real differences between leadership at sea and ashore.

Speaking ahead of the talk he said: "Admiral Lord Nelson is famous for being the most charismatic and successful leader in our astonishing naval history.

"Captain Cook might never have been called charismatic, but was an outstanding voyager and navigator who charted the southern seas.

"Captain Bligh provoked a notorious mutiny, but went on to save the lives of those who remained loyal to him, in an extraordinary feat of navigation and discipline in an overcrowded long-boat.

"Through analysing renowned leaders such as these this lecture will try to unlock what makes the difference between success and failure at sea."

Tickets for the lecture, entitled Leadership at Sea in Fact and Fiction, at 6.30pm on Wednesday, September 26, are available from the Maritime Museum in Falmouth at £8 for lecture only and £18 to include two-course buffet.

Doors and bar open from 6pm. To book seats call 01326 214546.
