Pay cut request for bakery staff
A CORNISH bakery firm says it has asked 31 members of staff to take a 10 per cent pay cut to protect jobs and inspire confidence.
Warrens, which has branches across the South West, asked some of its higher-paid staff to take the temporary cut at a meeting last week.
The changes, if agreed, will come into effect in November and last for six months, when the company, which has also appointed a new board of directors, will reimburse the shortfall.
Chairman Mark Sullivan, who is also chairman of Cornish Sea Salt, said he hoped the move would send a message to stakeholders.

"There's no hiding the fact it's (Warrens) had a challenging couple of years," he said.
"One thing is it helps financially. The other thing is that doing it symbolises things are moving forward and the whole team and employees are taking the strain to replan the business."
He continued: "We are really sympathetic. These are difficult times. We are determined to safeguard these jobs.
"It's unfortunate there are some sacrifices, I'm sure people would rather have a job."
Warrens has 440 staff in bakeries across the South West. It has closed five stores and made 12 staff redundant since March.

“So lets get this right the Governement set a minimum wage for workers that are employed and then a Cornish bakery firm wants workers to take a 10% pay cut ? something stinks and it isnt just the pastry cooking or is it their DOUGH lol (sorry could'nt resist it )”
