Bid to get to bottom of canal collapse
Westcountry communities along the flood-hit Grand Western Canal are being invited to a fact-finding meeting this week. Devon County Council is organising the drop-in session on Thursday night at Halberton Village Hall, near Tiverton. The council wants to find out what led up to the breach, which drained around two miles of the canal and flooded surrounding fields. Temporary dams were erected and a fish rescue operation launched. Roger Croad, cabinet member responsible for the canal, said: "We want to find out if anyone saw anything unusual."
