Big backing for scheme
THE planning application has been widely welcomed in Newquay.
Andy Cole, chairman of the Newquay Regeneration Forum, said: "We've always supported Nansledan because of its potential to create more jobs. The Duchy's long-term approach is a rare and welcome opportunity to plan ahead for decades and manage the growth of our town."
Pat Lambshead, Cornwall councillor for Newquay Tretherras, said: "I'm supporting this and have been involved since the original Enquiry by Design in 2004. Since then it has been fine-tuned and will provide affordable homes and jobs.
"This scheme is the future of Newquay, and its expansion is vital to make it a viable town with good facilities and infrastructure. The Newquay Strategic Route will ease traffic without it having to go through the town centre, and avoiding Henver Road and Quintrell Downs.
"Newquay is also the only major town in Cornwall that exports people to go to work rather than employing them here, and this will ensure people can live, work and play in the town."
