Falmouth Town 1, Launceston 2

TWO first half headers from Launceston skipper Rob Blake was enough to give Leigh Cooper's men victory at Bickland Park on Saturday.

Against a Town side which is improving with every game under management duo Robbie Stephens and Les Gilbert, it was far from a comfortable afternoon for the Clarets.

It had started so well for Launceston when Blake headed home Chris Head's corner in the 17th minute. And when Blake sent a bullet header past Town goalkeeper Jason Chapman in the 28th minute to double his side's lead, it looked as though Launceston would go on and win by a big margin.

But after the break Falmouth produced arguably their best 45 minutes under Stephens and Gilbert. And when Dan Richardson slid home Pat Shaughnessy's pull back in the 54th minute it was game on.

Glen Squires was presented with an excellent opportunity to equalise when his weak effort was easily collected by Launceston goalkeeper Dan Stephenson.

That was the closest Falmouth came to salvaging a point in a game they will have taken plenty of encouragement from while Cooper was just relieved to get the three points.
