Blogger and mum Pippa Best starts Sport Relief nationwide relay
A BLOGGER and mum from west Cornwall kicked off a nationwide relay alongside fellow parents, children and others to raise money for this year's Sport Relief.
Pippa Best, who runs the online community Story of Mum, embarked on the first leg of a 3,000-mile Land's End to John o' Groats challenge on Sunday morning, setting off from the landmark and handing over the baton to the next participant in Truro.
Ms Best and her Cornish contingent adorned odd shoes on their stage of the journey, as they teamed up with nationwide blogging network Team Honk, which set up the mission and called for support.
Ms Best said the idea has steadily grown and the charity fundraiser is a great way to involve families and increase awareness for global issues – and praised Team Honk for getting so many people to take part.

Talking before the event, Ms Best said: "What they have done is pull together 150 different bloggers across the country.
"We're representing the first blog – we're starting at Land's End and all of us are getting through each stage in all sorts of ways. We're all doing something odd too, which is why we'll be in odd shoes."
She said she was excited about the project and hoped to see lots of people join in to raise the £500 target for the cause, which has an overall figure of £20,000 in sight.
The mum, who also works as a script consultant and lives in Penzance, drove from Land's End before hobbling along the Prom from Newlyn to make the 11am train up to Truro.
"I think Sport Relief does some amazing things, so it's great to show support," she added.
One of the project's instigators is Tanya Barrow, based in Hampshire. She said some of the wackier parts of the trip will see participants travel by plane, on rollerskates, in kayaks and swimming.
"Our fundraising started last year when I contacted Emma Freud on Twitter – from there we were invited to her office and ended up going to Ghana and throughout the year did lots of things to raise money.
"We wanted to do something a bit different and sporty as this year it's Sport Relief – and we thought Land's End to John o'Groats would be great. It's iconic. I came down to visit last year and it seemed so natural."
