Devon based mental health organisation, The Blurt Foundation are to run a series of social media workshops across the south west, offering expert tuition on using Twitter, Facebook and the fastest growing social network, Pinterest to attract and engage with friends, supporters, or potential customers.
A total of nine sessions will be held throughout September, October and November at the Eden Project in Cornwall, The Royal William Yard in Plymouth and Exeter Phoenix. Costing just £50, they are limited to just 15 and will run on an informal and interactive basis over tea, coffee and homemade cake. With over 200 million Twitter users worldwide, 800 million active Facebook users and Pinterest being the third most popular social networking site, social media is an exciting free resource for any organisation, as Jayne Hardy, Blurt founder describes;
‘The majority of Blurt’s communications are via our social networks and since the charitable organisation, which provides a confidential mentoring scheme for anyone affected by depression, began in August 2011 we have established a firm online presence with 475 Facebook likes and 2440 Twitter followers including Jeremy Vine who also tweeted about one of our Pinterest boards. Our Pinterest board was also picked up by Total Politics. ‘

The strength of Blurt’s online profile led to Jayne being shortlisted for the ‘Talk Talk Digital Heroes Award 2011’
‘The three social media sites offer the perfect way for us to communicate with our mentors, mentees and supporters, who all want to talk to us, and each other in different ways. It’s a continuous conversation which has helped us recruit volunteers, part-take in valuable research which has formed the basis of many projects and helped us to find people willing to fundraise on our behalf.
Despite its huge potential, the range of different social networks and what they can offer can be overwhelming, through the courses we aim to share Blurt’s online knowledge and success and prove that it doesn’t need to take up too much time or resources. Whether you already dabble and want to learn more or you want to know what all the fuss is about, Blurt’s courses are just what you’re looking for.’
