Boarder Series for juniors at Poldhu
THIS weekend the National Trust will be hosting the second of the highly successful schools Boarder Series surf competitions.
The event will take place on Poldhu Beach on the Lizard.
Robyn Davies, five times British surfing champion and surf co-ordinator for the National Trust said: "These events are aimed at juniors – 11 to 16 year olds.
"We really hope that the National Trust Boarder Series will introduce more people to the joys of the coastline and raise awareness of the importance of looking after this special environment, while having bags of fun at the same time.
"Trust beaches are the ideal location to hold surf events because, thanks to the Trust's ongoing work, they remain unspoilt and still have that wilderness feel which surfers crave."
Extravaganza
Robyn continues: "This is an event aimed at everyone. We have split the categories into age groups so that everyone can have a chance of surfing against someone of their own ability and becoming the champ.
"Alongside the surfing extravaganza will be a beach clean where competitors will be able to add to their score through our green points system . . . picked plastic means points . . . and points mean prizes.
"Poldhu is perfect for this event and we hope it will be a fantastic day for everyone who comes along."
The first in the competition series, North of the Boarder, took place at Crantock near Newquay in May with much success.
Newquay's Alan Stokes, the UK's ranked number one surfer and National Trust surf ambassador, said: "I think this competition format is great.
"It's really opening the eyes of the next generation of surfers to the plight of our playground."
