Bodmin Town's FA Carlsberg Vase fourth round tie at home to Northern League Ashington on Saturday has been postponed.

This follows talks on Thursday afternoon between officials of the Northumberland club and the Football Association in view of a forecast of heavy snow in most parts of England on Friday.

Ashington, based 15 miles north of Newcastle-on-Tyne, requested that the match be postponed. They were due to set off on their 450-mile journey to Cornwall on Friday morning and were concerned that they would face a hazardous trip if the forecast was accurate.

Bodmin reported to the FA on Thursday morning that their Priory Park pitch was playable, which left the FA to decide whether to agree to Ashington's plea for a postponement.

Bodmin secretary Nick Giles said: "It is disappointing news because we have worked hard to get everything ready and as it stands our pitch is playable.

"We appreciate that the forecast was not good, but the decision to postpone had to be left to the FA to make."

The tie has been rearranged for Saturday week, January 26 (3pm), which means Bodmin's scheduled Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division match away to Saltash United has been postponed.
