Bodmin beat Newquay to record first home league win
Bodmin Town produced their most convincing performance so far this season to beat Newquay 2-1 at Priory Park tonight in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.
A Jordan Trott penalty for the Peppermints four minutes into time added on at the end made the result look tight but Bodmin were comfortable winners with goalkeeper Kevin Miller not called upon to make a save.
Lee Doel gave them the perfect start with a second minute goal after good work by Sam Matthews and Glynn Hobbs doubled their lead four minutes before half-time after capitalising on hesitancy between Newquay goalkeeper Tom Vercoe and his defenders.
Newquay were forced into a change at the start of the second half as Luke Haworth replaced the injured Lee Rundle and for long spells Bodmin seemed likely to extend their lead.

Hobbs, Matthews and Luke Hodge all came close while the biggest threat Newquay posed came from set pieces by Jordan Trott, whose left foot deliveries caused danger.
Newquay finally got themselves a goal in the fourth minute of five added on with Trott sidefooting in a penalty after Shane Jewell had been adjudged to have handled.
But there wasn’t enough time for Newquay to launch another assault on the Bodmin goal and the home side celebrated their first home league win of the season at the fourth attempt.
Bodmin included new signing Jimmy Alexander from Torpoint in the centre of midfield, with manager Darren Gilbert working to bring in a striker before the weekend.
