Bodmin care home awarded gold standard
A CARE and nursing home in Bodmin is the first in mid-Cornwall to receive a national Gold Standard award.
Castle Hill House, which has 43 beds, was awarded the status as part of the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) in the Care Homes Quality Hallmark Awards.

NATIONAL ACCOLADE: Staff and some of the residents at Castle Hill House in Bodmin, which has attained a gold standard.
The GSF Quality Hallmark Award is presented to homes that demonstrate real improvements in the quality of care and halve crisis hospital admissions of residents at the ends of their lives.
Homes must achieve 20 quality standards in areas ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect.

All aspects of a resident's life, including spiritual beliefs, personal interests, dignity and care preferences, are assessed, and gaining the award has involved all the staff including activities co-ordinators, domestic and catering staff as well as nurses and carers.
GSF National Centre lead nurse Maggie Stobbart-Rowlands said: "GSF has become recognised as the model of best practice for end-of-life care in care homes. Homes such as Castle Hill House are a beacon for others, providing the right care in the right place at the right time, offering the sort of care we would want for ourselves or our loved ones."
The National GSF Centre has delivered training to more than 2,000 homes across the UK and is accrediting up to 200 a year. It says it helps individuals and their families to identify homes delivering high-quality care for residents coming to the last stage of their life.
Castle Hill House manager Diane Kehoe said: "We achieved the GSF by working to make sure our residents get the care and treatment they need and deserve at all times.
"We're pleased to be recognised as the only home in Cornwall to achieve the award this year."
