Bodmin misses out on cut in rail parking fee
COMMUTERS who leave their vehicles at Bodmin Parkway train station will miss out on a 50% reduction in parking charges.
First Great Western is slashing parking charges at Liskeard train station from £2 to £1 per day but not at Bodmin.
North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson said it was unfair that Bodmin passengers were not being treated the same.
He said: "This is obviously good news for Liskeard people but it ought to be the same in Bodmin Parkway.
"First Great Western introduced parking at the stations at the same time, so I think it is unfair they reduce parking in one and not the other. People from right across Cornwall use Bodmin Parkway."
The charges were introduced in spring 2009 after years of free parking.
Workers commuting to Truro or Plymouth saw their costs rise by hundreds of pounds a year.
Under the charges, people have to pay £2 a day to leave their vehicles or £10 for a weekly pass. A monthly pass costs £37.50 and an annual pass £370.
In Liskeard, a weekly pass now costs £8.50 while a monthly pass remains £37.50.
First Great Western said motorists other than rail users leave their vehicles at the station, and charging would ensure that there were enough spaces available for genuine passengers.
Mr Rogerson met the train company's regional manager last year to discuss the charges but no solution was found.
Mr Rogerson said: "I asked First Great Western to look at doing something about the charges, maybe including parking in the cost of a ticket or offering a rebate, but they refused to do it. I will continue to look into this."
