A healthy attendance of 165 braved the blustery conditions at Langsford Park on Wednesday evening to witness the reigning Peninsula premier division champions replace their hosts at the top of the table.

The home side had the advantage of a very strong wind at their backs in the first half but they failed to make the most of the conditions, spurning several chances.

The main culprit was Lambs striker Adam Carter who burst through, one-on-one with Bodmin goalkeeper Kevin Miller, only to blast his shot over the bar.

Carter then drilled inches wide as he burst clear with the visitor's appealing, in vain, for offside.

Tavistock were made to pay for those misses as Bodmin took a 41st minute lead when Sam Matthews followed up on Chris Luxton's shot to steer the ball past the exposed Andy Meeds.

The diminutive Matthews, who is enjoying a return to form with the champions, was on target again, 11 minutes after the break when he took Ross Welch's cross in his stride to fire past Meeds from 12 yards.

Matthews came within a whisker of completing his hat-trick but his 25 yard effort came back off the crossbar with Meeds soundly beaten.

● In the Cornwall Charity Cup Perranporth were 5-3 winners in the first round at Truro City.

Richie Rundle hit a hat-trick for the home side with the Perranporth goals coming from Steve Brewer, Rusty Rowson and Mike Davies.
