SHAKESPEARE'S Globe, in partnership with English Touring Theatre (ETT) embarks on a nine-week UK tour with its award-winning production Anne Boleyn, coming to the Hall for Cornwall on April 10 to 14.

Winner of the 2011 Whatsonstage Award for best new play, Anne Boleyn is directed by John Dove and sees many of the original cast return for its first UK tour.

James Garnon (Anonymous, The Real American: Joe McCarthy) received critical acclaim during both seasons at the Globe and will reprise his role of King James I. "James Garnon makes James I deliciously comical without sacrificing his sharp intelligence ..." (The Times). Julius D'Silva returns as the scheming Thomas Cromwell and Colin Hurley as a poisonous Cardinal Wolsey.

"… striking performances from Colin Hurley, who conveys Cardinal Wolsey's relish for accumulating power ..." (Evening Standard).

Jo Herbert has performed in both Globe productions of Anne Boleyn with non-speaking parts. She now returns to take on the title role. Henry VIII will be played by new cast member, David Sturzaker (Cool Hand Luke, West End).

In the play, Howard Brenton sets out to challenge the traditional assumptions of Anne Boleyn as a pawn manipulated by an ambitious father or as a sexually licentious predator, even a witch. He puts a very different Anne on the stage – a witty and confident woman with controversial religious ideals, taking on the vicious world of Tudor politics.

Bright and flirtatious, Anne conspires with the exiled William Tyndale, to make England Protestant forever.

Jumping forward 70 years, we see the newly crowned James I discover Anne's copy of the controversial Tyndale Bible, which goes on to become one of the key reference texts for his common 'authorised' Bible – which celebrates its 400th anniversary this year.

Brenton's play premiered at Shakespeare's Globe in 2010 as part of the organisation's continuing programme of new writing. It broke all box office expectations, selling out before opening night and returned to the Globe in 2011.

After another exceptional season in the capital, Anne Boleyn now tours to regional venues for a limited nine-week tour.

In partnership with ETT, this is a unique opportunity to see a large-scale production from one of London's leading theatres around the country.
