A BRAVE young boy has given the chance of life to his teenage brother who is battling against cancer.

Jack Fisher is only eight years old, but has undergone a bone marrow transplant to help his older brother, Shaun, to fight leukaemia.

The 18-year-old is due to be transferred from hospital in Bristol this week to Treliske, and is said to be responding well to treatment.

The Lanivet family has already experienced heartache and tragedy, when two years ago, their mum Lisa Fisher succumbed to cancer at just 37, leaving husband Terry and three children.

The eldest sister, Jodie, said that everyone was praying the transplant would be a success.

"We were very lucky that Jack's bone marrow matched Shaun's. He's still recovering and is stable, but Jack is back at school and running around as if nothing's happened – he's just been amazing.

"I'm so proud of my two soldiers for being so brave," said 21-year-old Jodie.

"I'm sure mum is looking down on them and is feeling as proud as me."

She said Shaun was keen to get back to Cornwall, and was waiting for a bed to become available at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

"He can't wait to get home. He is looking well after the transplant, and can get out of bed and walk. Obviously he has good days and bad days, and we are taking each day as it comes."

Jodie said young Jack had no hesitation in undergoing the transplant procedure to help his big brother.

She said: "He's just a star. For him, it was just something you do for your brother. He was soon running around as usual, but he has been a real hero to us all."

Terry Fisher said: "It's been an awful roller coaster for us all. After Lisa died, we had to go through it all again. Shaun was diagnosed in May and suffered a complication with a fungal infection.

"He was moved from Treliske to Bristol last month and we are hoping now that the transplant will work, and that a bed at Treliske will become available this week."

Jodie said: I am very proud of Terry. He's been through so much in the last two years. Some men of his age would turn their back on life and wouldn't want to face this all again. But he's still so strong and still has a sense of humour.

"He's the strongest man I know, and I'm so proud to call him my dad."
