Brewery's tipple goes down very well abroad
IT WAS cheers all round for an award-winning North Cornwall microbrewery after the company gained its first international orders.
After only starting its export programme in August Penpont Brewery, founded by Joe Thomson and Stephen Medlicott in 2008, has secured sales in Russia and Canada.

Based at Altarnun on Bodmin Moor the brewery has sent 250 kegs, or 22,000 pints, of its strongest beer – the 5.8 per cent Porter – to St Petersburg.
Joe, who began delivering the brewery's beer in an old East German Trabant, feels it's fitting to continue the link behind the former Iron Curtain.

He said: "We've got a great market in Cornwall and the South West, but we're keen to get our award-winning beers to real ale lovers further afield.
"We had thought more about targeting other areas of the UK so we've only just dipped our toes into the export market. But the response we've had already from buyers in Russia and Canada is incredible.
"It's also nice to be sending our Porter to Eastern Europe. I'd love to make the trip in the Trabant, which proved to be a trusty delivery vehicle when we first started, but I'm not sure how long it would take to get there."
A further 600 cases of its a 4.2 per cent Ginger Beer, that won gold at the SIBA South West Beer Festival in 2011, have headed to Canada.
The brewery is holding a pie and ale night to celebrate its fourth anniversary on November 2, at the Rising Sun at Altarnun at 5.30pm.
