Bridgers hold Penryn in stalemate
Wadebridge Town 0, Penryn Athletic 0
WADEBRIDGE Town continued their impressive revival under manager Mark Menhinick with a hard-fought draw against high-flying Penryn Athletic at Bodieve Park on Saturday.
Menhinick was happy with the point after seeing Penryn squander a host of goalscoring opportunities on a bitterly cold afternoon.
Before the game Wadebridge club stalwart Henry Hicks was presented with an award by the CCFA's Dennis Champion for 50 years service to the club. During that time Hicks has been chairman, vice chairman, president, groundsman (for 20 years) and is also a current committee member, as well as being a life member for his loyalty to the club.
Wadebridge were fortunate not be trailing by a couple of goals in the opening minutes as Kayne Trevaskis fired over, before the strike's superb cross field ball found Will Scoley, who was unlucky to see his lob come back off the post.
At the other end the impressive Paul Cox crossed for Paul Menhinick, but the striker could only direct his effort over the bar.
Trevaskis had a couple more opportunities for Penryn, first he was thwarted by Tom Vercoe in the Wadebridge goal, before firing wide moments later.
The hosts then survived a couple of penalty shouts with half-time approaching, and they could have even taken the lead against the run of play when Cox headed over the bar.
Penryn had the better of the chances after the break, with Vercoe again denying Trevaskis, while the hard-working Nathan Cudmore came within inches of scoring with a drive from the edge of the area.
