Brigade of chefs turn out to support port's festival
A Cornish fishing port was bursting with festive cheer yesterday as visitors flocked to its harbourside Christmas Festival.
The four-day event in Padstow swung into action on Thursday tempting an influx of foodies and families with a mixture of entertainment, food masterclasses, local produce and shopping.
Now in its sixth year, the festival has continued to grow, attracting 30,000 visitors in 2012. Highlights today include demonstrations starting with a "Red Kitchen v Green Kitchen" challenge with Brian Turner, Phil Vickery and Fern Britton. The rest of the day sees appearances from Mitch Tonks, Michael Caines and the port's own Rick Stein.
Later today, industry experts will also discuss what makes Cornwall such an enduring destination while tomorrow sees the question-led "Audience with the Chefs".

Padstow resident and festival organiser Tina Evans said: "We can't quite believe how far the festival has come. This year we've moved locations to the opposite side of the quay in order to accommodate everyone.
"The festival is a not-for-profit event and is only possible with the help of incredible volunteers, sponsors and the businesses and chefs that get behind it.
"Padstow has always been a 'foodie' destination but the calibre of chefs that we have here has really helped put us on the map on a national scale."
An expanded Christmas market includes 100 local producers selling crafts, paintings and the best of Cornish food and drink.
Shoppers will be in their element with numerous arts and craft stalls alongside Padstow's shops, many of which are running special festival offers. There's also a host of entertainment for children with face painting, reindeer on the quay and the Swamp Circus.
