British surf team make waves
Ben "skindog" Skinner and Adam Griffiths along with Ben Bates (17), Raife Gaskell (17) and Britain's number one female Claire Smail had all been selected to surf for Surfing GB at last weeks ISA World Longboarding Games in Peru.
The event toke place at Huanchaco beach competing against the best longboarders from around the world in the surfing equivalent of the Olympic games, on the hunt for Britain's first medal.
The team had no funding and is aiming to raise £10,000.00 to cover the trip and to also have some money left towards training the next generation of team GB as there is no current funding for surfing.
They have raised over £5,625.00 on their www.crowdfunder.co.uk/teamgb page where you can make a pledge for goods and services from the team. Another £1000.00 was raised at a Joe Way appeal fundraiser and the Flowrider at the Retallack resort & Spa also donated £1000.00 which meant £7,625.00 was raised in just 4 weeks.

Team GB finished 5th out of 22 countries beating the USA and Australia with all the team holding their own against the best in the world.
Robert "minnow" Green team manager said "If we can achieve this with all the distractions of funding ourselves then think what we could achieve with sponsors on board, we where one of the few teams that had funded their own trip, training and other costs".
Ben Skinner team captain won silver after a battle with French surfer Antoine Delpero which saw the scoring going down to the wire. Ironically Ben had beaten the Frenchman the day before in the semi final, however if you get knocked out you are entered into the Repercharge contest and the winner of that goes back into the grand final.
Ben Skinner who had won the European games taking his 11th European title just two weeks ago was a true sportsman as he picked up his silver medal.
Ben Said "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen. It really has been so special the support we have received and we are over the moon with our top 5 position as a team, we hope we have done Great Britain proud. The team, have been great and to also win a silver medal in the first Longboard world games is amazing. I can't believe it has happened, I had some of the biggest heats of my life beating world champs just proves what is possible when you focus and just surf. However it wasn't gold and we will be back as a team next year and I want it more than ever"
Minnow Green added "Please contact us to help the team hit their £10,000.00 target. We are also looking for sponsors for next years games to come on board now and we have our after party at the flowrider coming up".
