The EU has delayed a decision on resuming imports of wine labelled "chateau" from the USA, after French producers said the Americans did not follow the same rules that they had to. Bordeaux producers say the move would lead to unfair competition since USA producers follow a different definition of what constitutes "chateau" bottled. Chilean producers got the green light to use the "chateau" label ten years ago.

The aid was granted to farmers as part of a contingency plan to protect farmers from price drops caused by a temporary over supply on the market.
