A SICKENING attack in the early hours of Sunday has left a woman terrified of leaving her house.

Events unfolded at around 2am when a group of young men approached Amelia in the smoking area of the club.

Cynthia Hatton, Amelia's mother, said: "These lads were making sexual suggestions to her and she told them to go away but they kept pestering, and then the man punched her.

According to Amelia, who lives in Lostwithiel, following the attack the man told her, "you better not go outside or you're going to get stabbed".

Two hours after the initial assault Amelia was walking near MPG Books in Victoria Square when she was attacked again by the same man.

During this second, more brutal assault, the man rained blows down upon Amelia's face and body leaving her battered, bruised and frightened for her life, her mother said.

"She's petrified, she's really scared and she can't believe this has happened," added Mrs Hatton, "she says she does not want to go out ever again."

Mrs Hatton added: "She's also been having panic attacks; if she gets woken she jumps and covers her face and we have to reassure her she's safe.

"We just have to keep reassuring her that this is not going to happen again."

Fighting back emotion, Mrs Hatton said that Amelia thought the last punch was going to kill her.

"To be hearing that from my daughter, it really upsets me, it makes me sick."

The man is described as white, in his late-teens/early twenties, 5ft 4in, of slim build with short mousy brown hair and was wearing a white polo shirt with blue horizontal stripes.

“This individual is vile and this sort of thing should never happen but, I'm afraid it does. Why did she not inform the nightclub staff, why was she walking around alone at 4.00am especially as she had already been assulted. I am not justifying this creature's actions but sometimes you do have to take reponsibility for yourself. I certainly would not stay in a place where this behaviour was not challenged, she should have got in a taxi gone home and if the staff of the nightclub had not already done so, called the police.”

“A short man trying to be a tough guy. Vile individual.”
