Bryher mum and daughter climb Kilimanjaro for air ambulance
A MOTHER and daughter from Bryher on the Isles of Scilly have conquered Kilimanjaro for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.
Ginny Hulands and her daughter Jo, who were among a 31 strong team that took on the climb, decided to take part because their husband and father was air lifted six years ago.
“Dad collapsed while at work,” said Jo, who now lives on the mainland. “He had just stopped breathing.
“Mum managed to get him breathing again and the air ambulance landed in the garden and within 20 minutes got him to Treliske where he was able to get the treatment he badly needed.”

Steve Hulands had suffered a massive pulmonary embolism and without the speedy transfer to hospital things could have been very different.
When the two of them heard about the Kilimanjaro challenge they decided to sign up.
“It just seemed like the best possible way to show our gratitude and hopefully help the air ambulance be there to make a difference to someone else in their time of need,” said Jo.
The duo reached the summit on Thursday, September 19 with the rest of the group.
Jo said: “The hardest part of all was summit night. To keep walking after six days of trekking was so hard. We were tired and had used up all of our energy, and yet were faced with a huge climb to the summit that we still had to conquer.
"After literally blood, sweat and tears we managed to actually achieve what we’ve been working towards for the past year of our lives.
“The feeling of elation on reaching the summit was incredible and it was made even more special by sharing this once in a lifetime moment with my mum."
In total the group have raised over £75,000 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance and they have already planned next year’s expedition to Machu Picchu
