THE GUINNESS World Record for the largest gathering of pirates was achieved in Penzance last year, at the Golowan Festival, when 8,734 pirates gathered on Penzance Promenade.

The previous record was held by Hastings with 6166 pirates in 2010.

A Pirate Party to celebrate and thank all those who helped achieve the record is being held at the Acorn in Penzance on Saturday, February 18.

Performing are Slap Dash Trio, Blue Horyzon, Tyn Daga, Shanty Baba, DJs Kevin Godden and Harry Gordon-Smith and many more.

Come dressed as a pirate again and celebrate having the world record. The party starts at 6pm, with cake and Shanty Baba's family entertainment, So You Want To Be a Pirate.

There will be a pirate quiz, dancers from the Big Dance Company and films of the Golowan weekend.

The first 40 adults through the door, will be able to sample the new ale, Cornish Crown, donated by Penzance's latest micro-brewery.

Guinness certificates will be presented to the Mayor of Penzance and others who helped the town achieve the achievement for Cornwall.

Tickets are £5 and a family ticket before 8pm is £8. Tickets can be brought from the Crown Inn, Victoria Square, and Mounts Bay Music, in Causewayhead, Penzance, and through the Acorn theatre.
