EARLIER: A BURGLAR was caught red-handed after stealing more than £20,000 in cash from a Falmouth post office safe on Monday night.
Dene Tregidgo, 22, from Esperanza Court in Falmouth, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates Court this morning to the burglary at Boslowick Post Office, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
He will be sentenced at Truro Crown Court on March 20.
Sergeant Martin Roberts, from Falmouth police station, claimed it was a victory for a return to an old style of policing, referred to as Operation Heartbeat – where officers patrol commercial premises at night checking they are secure.
Falmouth police caught the man as he was leaving the property in the early hours of Tuesday morning while on patrol.
Sergeant Martin Roberts said: “Officers were out on Operation Heartbeat and a call was received.
“Officers were in the neighbourhood and attended the incident. Operation Heartbeat was instrumental in catching the offender.
Heartbeat was launched recently in the Falmouth area.
