Burst water pipe causes flooding at Royal Cornwall Hospital

A burst water pipe in the early hours of this morning caused a section of Royal Royal Cornwall Hospital to flood.

Around 18 firefighters were called to a basement room at Treliske in Truro at around 4.45am after a water pipe containing boiling hot water burst..

Upon arrival, crews said the water had caused flooding in the basement and the water had spread to the main hospital building.

Staff at the hospital had been alerted to the incident after steam from the hot water set the alarms at the hospital off.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue service confirmed all the water had been pumped out of the hospital by 6.30am.

No injuries were reported.
