Burton brings Hollywood to Cornwall
FANS of heartthrob Johnny Depp hoping to see him in the flesh will be disappointed that rumours of him filming in Charlestown this week appeared to be untrue.
But other stars involved in the Hollywood remake of Alice in Wonderland have been spotted filming in the historic port.
Director Tim Burton, who has adapted the popular tale for the big screen spent a few days in Charlestown, alongside 18-year-old actress Mia Wasikowska, who takes the title role.
Burton's partner Helena Bonham Carter was also photographed pushing their baby daughter Nell. She will be playing the Queen of Hearts in the film, but is thought to have been in Charlestown supporting her partner.
The harbour has been transformed into a hive of activity, with actors, extras and production staff taking over the small fleet of tall ships.
Depp plays the Mad Hatter, while Little Britain's Matt Lucas has been cast as brothers Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.
Golden Globe winner Burton is famous for blockbusters including Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
People hoping to spot local landmarks will have to wait a while - the film isn't due for release until spring 2010.
