Supporters of Looe-based charity Ellie's Haven are being asked to take part in a "golden opportunity" to raise funds.

In September 2012 the charity purchased a house in Duloe which is being renovated into a holiday home for families with children suffering from long-term or life-limiting illnesses.

It is now calling for its supporters to take part in its fundraising Christmas challenge.

For three days, starting on Thursday December 6, for each £1 donated to the cause via the Big Give website, Elllie's Haven will receive an additional £1 from pledges.

Earlier this year the charity secured pledges totalling £2,500 from individuals and business, which triggered an additional pledge of the same amount from Candis magazine.

Nigel Libby, general manager of Ellie's Haven, said: "We're hoping to hit our maximum – getting donations of £5,000, which will be worth £10,000 to us."

The charity was formed in 2007 by Nigel and Julie Libby in honour of their daughter who was born with a rare brain disorder. Ellie passed away in January this year just days before her seventh birthday.

The challenge opens at 10am on Thursday December 6. Donations can also be made after 10am on both Friday December 7 and Saturday December 8.
