HURRICANS ACCEPT INVITATION FROM WALES:
Storm Netball Club's Under 16 team, the Hurricanes, have accepted an invitation to play the Wales Under 15 national team in Cardiff in February half term week (13-17).
Louisa-Jayne Daniell, coach of the Welsh team, contacted the Redruth-based club after reading about them on twitter and on their own website.
Storm coach David White said: "It's a credit to everyone that a national coach thinks our club is capable enough to give them a decent game.
"It also pleased me that people are reading our website and seeing that we try and approach the game with a professional attitude.
"The timing is perfect as February is the month the Hurricanes have off from the Regional League so I've been in contact with Louisa-Jayne to accept the offer with the proviso that I can get a full strength team together ,bearing in mind that half term sometimes families go away.
"If people are away at half term I think we'll be able to do a Saturday or a Sunday in February instead as I think it's too good an opportunity to turn down."
The club are now looking for a one-off sponsor to help cover the costs which would be involved in the trip.
Triathlon
MARK CONFIDENT THE BEST IS STILL TO COME IN 2012:
Redruth based International Triathlete Mark Lewarne believes he is about to hit his prime as he bids to make 2012 his best year yet.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a memorable season which saw him gain his best ever finish at a World Championship event in finishing inside the top 10 at the ITU World Aquathlon Championships in Beijing in September and despite mechanical problems on the bike inside the top 32 in the world for the Triathlon.
He also thrilled the crowds during the London leg of the ITU World Series by sneaking inside the top 10.
But, as he searches for that elusive podium finish, Lewarne insists there is plenty more to come in the months ahead.
He said: "I feel that if I keep working hard during these tough winter months then success is just around the corner.
"I am improving year on year, the results show that. However, as an athlete we do have good and bad days.
"I have stepped up the intensity from last year and now I'm beginning to feel the body has become more resilient to the demands of training.
"I got up to seventh in the world this year for my category, which is the highest I've ever been in the rankings, and my consistency during races this year was way better.''
Lewarne will be targeting a number of major races in 2012 in his quest for a podium finish.
He added: "We have the European Championships in Israel during April, the British Championships over the summer and the World Championships in New Zealand at the end of the summer after the Olympics, so an action packed year ahead.
"For many years I've been an athlete on the GB team, accepting my place going to the major championships and not quite making that elusive top three finish.
"It's very difficult to take mentally, but I really do believe the best is yet to come. My sponsors Follett Stock have been supporting me throughout, and without their valuable assistance I wouldn't be the athlete I am today."

CHAMPIONS EDGE HOME:
Reigning champions Illogan HI A came through another difficult match 3-2, away to Penponds, writes Terry Kempe.
Super sub Dave Martin made a rare appearance for Penponds and won his frame comfortably against Rob Bennetts.
Stuart Lugg lost on a re-spotted black to Nick Mutter after missing a straightforward black and with it the chance to end Illogan's winning streak.
A special mention must go to the prolific little Welshman, which is Alan Hurley, who blitzed Darren Murrish 3-0 on Wednesday in the Heathcoat Cup with breaks of 57 clearance (first frame), 68 and 54 clearance (second frame) and a superb 118 in the third frame, missing the yellow with a possible 145 clearance on offer.
On this form he is the favourite to take the first prize of £100 in The Christmas Classic. Playing Place A won the derby battle with their own B side, 3-2.
There were a couple of close frames in this match. Illogan HI B had a good 3-2 home victory over Redruth British Rail A (Mike Jenkin 34, Jason Kempthorne 30). Maurice Hicks beat Rob Mason and Keith Philp beat John Winn to help Illogan's cause. Redruth British Rail had a good 4-1 home win over an in-form St Day side, although St Day were unlucky in losing the first two frames.
I lost to Darren Davey after making 44 and losing position on the yellow with a clearance on, only for Darren to fluke a snooker then fluke the yellow and brown and win the frame on the pink.
Veteran Peter Simmons was also unlucky in losing his frame on the black against Darren Murrish, who rode his luck with some wild shots early on and a vital fluke late on in the frame.
Dan Spry made an excellent 61 break and was unfortunate not to make more after attempting to split the remaining four reds but narrowly missing the cannon on them.
John Dunn was St Day's only winner against Graham Beard. Godolphin club had a good change of fortunes at last with a 4-1 home win over Breage. Nathan Strick was Breage's only winner. STR Clinton won 3-2 at home to Rack 'em Up. Illogan HI C were the team with a bye this week.
In division two, St Day A moved up to joint top spot with a good 4-1 home win over St Rumons B who only managed to field four players. A few sides have been short this season in all three divisions and it will be brought to the committee's attention at the next meeting with possible fines for those sides responsible.
Acceptable
It is not fair or acceptable on the fifth player who has to wait all night to play then not to get a game.
St Rumons A had a 3-2 home win over St Day B with young Brett Broad playing well for St Rumons. Aiden Johns and his dad, Mike, replied with wins for St Day.
Radnor won 3-2 at home to Feock, who also only managed to field four players.
Lanner had a good 4-1 home win over Penponds. Clive Thomas was Penpond's only winner against R Hoskin. Camborne Conservative won 4-1 at home to Perranporth GC. Kevin Selby has moved up a division and is certainly worthy of his place and showed that with a good performance and a break of 28 for the Cons. Gary Marson beat Steve Lovelock for Perranporth's only point.
Porthleven lost 3-2 at home to Four Lanes who got back to winning ways after a couple of defeats. Dean Williams made 29 for Porthleven in his frame against Mark Shovel, but still lost the frame. Graham Allen had a 27 clearance for Four Lanes.
In division three, Redruth British Rail A went down 4-1 at home to Stithians A, who managed to win all three black ball frames! Illogan HI are going well and had a good 4-1 win at home to Camborne Conservative, another side who only managed to field four players. Brian Lawry was the Cons' only winner against C Arthur.
Godolphin Club lost 4-1 at home to Radnor. Park Bottom had an excellent 5-0 home win over Shooters. R Roskilly beat Dom James by a single point in his frame. Although Shooters are clearly struggling I have been told by Dom that they are really enjoying their first season in the Mining League and only hope to improve with time and more experience. Penponds won 3-2 at home Stithians C, there was yet another walkover in this match, (A Short over C Instance).
I have had a no result yet again in this division (Stithians B v Redruth British Rail B).
I have all results from division one in to me by 6pm on a Saturday after playing the night before, therefore I do not see why teams in other divisions that play on a Tuesday are unable to get their results to me on time.
Players are reminded that entry fees for the Christmas Classic on Sunday December 11 need to be in to me by today. The entry fee is £5. The tournament is being sponsored by Tim Glasson Estate Agents and Ian Coleman Property Care Builders, both sponsors have donated towards the overall prize fund and the winner will be guaranteed at least £100.
I have capped the entry limit at 32 entries due to a large number of entries and only having five tables at my disposal.
The draw will take place at the next committee meeting to be held tonight at Redruth British Rail 7.30pm.
All players are welcome to attend. Entry fees can be made on the night to Terry Kempe. Entries will not be accepted after the draw has taken place. Ring Terry for more details 07772914980 or 01209 613107.
There is also an Open Handicap Billiards Competition on Sunday December 10. The competition is open to all players any age or standard. Entry fee is £10. Players will be handicapped fairly. There will be prize money for the winner and runner up. There will also be a plate competition on the day. Matches will be played on a round robin basis up to the semi-finals to guarantee players more matches and will be 200 up.
I have 12 entries so far and based on those figures there will be four groups of three with the group winners going through to the semi-finals.
Ring Terry Kempe for more details on 07772914980 or 01209 613107.

Camborne avenged an earlier narrow home reverse against the Amateurs by winning a tight game at the Mennaye.

RAMPANT YOUNG REDS:
Redruth U10s 60 Lankelly-Fowey 10
Redruth had an early start at the weekend when they travelled up to Lankelly-Fowey RFC.
Lankelly were short with only four players and had to call up four U11s to help them out with the agreement from the Redruth coaches. Redruth also leant them another player to make up a full squad, and this was with the help and sportsmanship of Redruth's Jude Boyde.
Redruth had to defend hard at first but after three minutes Redruth's Tom ripped the ball and crossed the line. Redruth then found their stride and a minute later a try came from Samuel.
Redruth kept recycling the ball, phase after phase and Reds' forward James picked up a loose ball from behind the ruck, saw the gap and ran in for another try.
Pressure was now on for Lankelly, but who again found themselves tackled and driven off in the ruck, the Reds got the ball passed out to Adam who crossed the opposition's try line again, two minutes later Bailey scored in the same corner for another try. Lankelly managed to close the first half by scoring their first try in the Reds corner.
Second half saw very much the same as of the first from Redruth who dominated game play with lots of great rugby and the help of each other, with this it allowed Bailey and Samuel to have another two tries piece and also as he never thought twice in ripping the ball from Lankelly's hands, Lewis determined to do his job went over for his try.
Redruth turned the ball over again and from the ruck a pass out to Kieran who then dummied passed his opponent and went through to score another.
Lankelly-Fowey were hardly out of their half, and they happened to step out into touch five yards in from the try line. Reds won their lineout and David got over for the try. Again Lankelly restarted and had a break through which they took advantage off and produced a try in the bottom corner.
Redruth came back and Adam was unlucky as within a a yard got tackled but with great backing up and support play Bailey with a lovely pickup scored in the corner. There was some fantastic rugby with Redruth running in 12 tries to Lankelly's two.
Squad & Tries: Jago Ford, Adam Hall (1), Bailey Berriman (3), Lewis Wills (1), Kieran Daughtery (1), Samuel Churchill (3), David Gardner (1), Tom Morrison (1), James Curnow (1). Rolling Subs: Callum Grohmann, Dominic Tresidder, Mac Ross.
Football
Redruth United 3 St Day 0
Just recently United have had high scoring second halves and this Trelwany One game was no exception.
A close first half with goal chances at either end, but the game came alive for the home side in the second half with three goals.
After a Barry McCabe throw Ben Harris headed on for Joe Ashton to strike a sweet right footer into the net. Brett Adams then cleverly set up Ashton for his second.
With man of the match Ryan Baber taking control in the middle, young Dan McInerney expertly went pass the keeper and headed in on the line for a solid three point win.
Redruth United Res 5 Constantine Res 1
Redruth produced an excellent first half scoring five goals but then sat back in the second half conceding one goal in the process.
This Trelawny League Division Four game started when a Martin Adams free-kick was headed down by Tony Barber for Kevin Endean to score.
After an Endean corner Adams headed on for Richie Ward to grab the second. Callum Salmon then put over a perfect cross for Endean to get his double. Endean then turned supplier for Rob Bevington to volley home and after another Adams free-kick Salmon rifled in a 20 yard shot.
The second half fell flat for the home side with chances going astray from Ward and Guy Johnson but Simon Barrand still got the man of the match award with his display in the defence.

HONOURS EVEN:
Trevenson Vipers U11 1 Holmans Hotshots 1
This was an end to end game and both sides played well.
Trevenson worked very hard in the first half and defended well to stop a very attacking Holmans side.
Trevenson were creating chances and putting the Holmans side under pressure with some great passing football and hard work.
Trevenson took the lead late in the first half with a wonderful shot from Lewis Tidy.
The second half was again end to end with both keepers making great saves. As the half went on Holmans put Trevenson under pressure with Trevenson defending well. Just as it looked like Trevenson were going to hang on for the win, Holmans pushed forward again and with what turned out to be the last kick of the game scored. No side would have deserved to lose the game.
