Camborne sportsmen to cycle for meningitis victim Ruby-Ann
Three members of a sporty Camborne family will take to the road next month to raise money for a meningitis charity. Dad Chris Rowe, from Tolvaddon, and sons Matt and James plan to cycle from Land's End to Burton on Trent, starting on March 18. Their destination is Queen's Hospital where a member of their family died from the disease. Ruby-Ann died on her first birthday from meningococcal septicaemia, within four hours of falling ill. Matt, who is a student, said: "My brother James has an 18-month-old daughter and it was his idea to do something for the Meningitis Trust, because of what happened to Ruby-Ann." Chris and James play cricket for Cornwall and Camborne, and their other brother Tom plays for Nottinghamshire and represented England at U19 level last year. Dad Chris was a county cricketer and played football at a high level in Cornwall. Matt said: "The cycle iteslf is 350 miles from Land's End to the hospital where our cousin passed away in Burton-on-Trent. "We start on March 18 and are looking to complete it in four days. "We have currently raised £550, with a target of £3,000. The money we raise will go towards specialist equipment for children suffering from meningitis and it will also provide respite for their parents."
