Camborne town council agrees to buy new handyman workshop in Redruth
CAMBORNE Town Council has agreed to buy a £250,000 handyman workshop in Redruth.
At its full town council meeting held last week the authority passed a motion by a majority vote to take out a 25-year loan to purchase a unit at Barncoose Industrial Estate.
During the same meeting the authority also voted against a motion by councillor Adam Crickett, who had called for a full inquiry into the decision.
He wanted the town council to investigate the process of purchasing new workshop space and facilities.

He told the council: “I have received many angry messages about the decision and it is in the council’s best interest that we are doing what is in residents’ best interest and that’s the reason for it.”
And councillor Jude Robinson, who seconded the motion, said she hoped other members of the authority took the proposal to investigate the decision in good faith, adding that: “It is an important issue as to how the decision was made and something we need to be clear about ourselves and show our people that we are taking it seriously.”
However, the majority of members felt the council had already spent many hours discussing and investigating the matter and different workshop options and consequently voted against the motion.
