Jane Palmer, Margaret Palmer and Ray Chubb with Agan Tavas' new Cornish literature award
The new award, which consists of a perpetual trophy and a certificate, has been named Pewas Perghyryn Lyenyeth Kerneweck in honour of Michael Palmer, who was a prolific writer of verse, short stories and novels in Cornish before his death in 2005.
Ray Chubb, chairman of Agan Tavas, said: "We are delighted to be launching this new award and hope that it will encourage Cornish speakers to write or translate literature in Cornish so it can be published, and because revived Cornish has been spelt in a number of ways over the years, orthography (correct spelling) will not be a factor in deciding the winner.

"Michael Palmer's untimely death has depleted the volume of new original literary works that are being published in Cornish, and we hope that this award will help to fill the gap left by his passing."
Mr Palmer's widow Margaret and daughter Jane were present at the Agan Tavas annual meeting to officially launch the award.
The trophy was designed by Niall Timmins of St Erth Praze.
The closing date for entries is October 1, 2013 and any work of more than 2,000 words written or published during the previous 12 months is eligible.
The trophy for the winning entrant will be presented each February at the Agan Tavas annual meeting.
Entry forms for the award can be downloaded from the Agan Tavas website www.agantavas.com or by post with a stamped self addressed envelope from The Secretary, Agan Tavas, Rozteag, Higher Tregenna Road, St Ives, TR26 2AU.
