Campaigner for dementia care is a local hero
One of the Westcountry's most tireless campaigners for dementia sufferers, who battles on despite coping with the illness himself, has been awarded a top honour.
Norman McNamara, known to his friends as 'Norms' has been awarded the Pride of Britain Local Hero award for the South West.
Mr McNamara, who was diagnosed with dementia aged 52, has been nationally recognised for his work to make Torbay dementia friendly and improve the lives of those with the condition.
A spokesman for the Alzheimer's Society said the honour was richly deserved. "Norms is a true inspiration to people with dementia everywhere, proving that a diagnosis of dementia does not have to mean the end."
