Cape's the place for community radio
A GROUP of would-be radio stars from a west Cornwall school have launched their own station.
A group of 25 Cape Cornwall students took to the airwaves for the first time this week, entertaining listeners with top tunes, news and chat.
The online station allows them to broadcast every lunchtime and there are hopes the local community will also join in with the new enterprise.
"I would love for Cape Radio to become part of the fabric of the school and for it to be used by teachers and school groups," said pupil and Penwith Radio presenter Gabriel Lucas Green, who came up with the idea for the station.

"I hope people in the community will get involved too and come and talk about local events."
Head teacher Julie Nash officially launched the station, which boasts presenters alongside news, production and technician teams.
It took Gabriel six months from the time he put forward the idea of a station to get it up and running: "I have always been interested in radio," he said.
"I remember broadcasting through a baby monitor when I was little.
"We talked about a radio station at Cape for years so when I got to Year 11 I realised I had to do something about it before it was too late."
The teenager set up his own online station two years ago, running it until joining the Penzance-based Penwith Radio where he now co-hosts a Saturday show every fortnight.
"The vision for this at Cape was Gabriel's from the start," said Mrs Nash.
"He approached me to ask if we could do this and frankly, he put in front of me one of the very best business cases I have ever seen.
"We could not be more impressed with the way he has carried this project forward and how he has trained the teams working for this project."
