Cargo ship runs aground on her maiden voyage
An 89-metre cargo ship has run aground during her maiden voyage from Southampton to the Channel Islands and is now at Falmouth Docks for repairs.
The 2,500 tonne MV Huelin Dispatch, built at a cost of £8.8 million, was on her first voyage carrying cargo when she hit rocks near Alderney. The Alderney all-weather RNLI Lifeboat was called out, whose crew were able to establish that there was damage to the stern of the vessel, which was letting in water. After containing the leak, the ship and its crew of eight were able to make their way to Falmouth Docks.

The company Chief Executive, Richard Evans, said in a statement "We have initiated the most appropriate contingency plan to ensure that we continue to deliver to our customers. There is a specific challenge with the Alderney cargo which we are managing, otherwise our service continues to run as normal."
