CLAY Country carnival season saw a host of local children compete for the title of king and queen.

Youngsters dressed up in their flowing frocks and mini tuxedos to compete for the title which places them on the queen's float on carnival evening.

Roche Carnival Queen was announced as Charlotte Hewett. She joined the village's procession on the carnival queen float with her attendants Hannah Hatch and Louise Sullivan.

Fairy queen Kira Mills and fairy king Bradley Stoddern donned their miniature outfits to join the parade.

Michael Williams and Kimberley Stoddern were named as the fairy queen and king at St Stephen Carnival and were thrilled to join the carnival queen on her float which weaved its way through the village streets with the procession.

St Stephen carnival week also included a show and shine event for all of the local lads in their modified cars to show off their handiwork.

Multi-colour paintwork, lowered suspension and expensive sound systems filled the car park with youngsters milling around in awe.

The consistent rain didn't deter the motoring enthusiasts who congregated at the Recreation Ground to try and impress judges to win cash prizes before heading around St Stephen on a village cruise on Tuesday, August 5.

Juxtaposed against the modern vehicles was Ernest Julian in his 1969 Morris Minor 1000 which was polished to perfection.

The classic curves were admired by other drivers who had added spoilers and alloys to their vehicles to enhance their appeal.
